Greg McWilliams is the new RUNY Head Coach

In a move widely circulated over the past couple weeks, Rugby United New York have confirmed that Greg McWilliams will be their new Head Coach for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. He replaces Mike Tolkin, who was not renewed after leading the side through their exhibition schedule and inaugural campaign in 2019.

Like Tolkin, McWilliams boasts international coaching experience though as an assistant. He is currently in Japan with the USA as one of Gary Gold’s assistants in charge of the attack at the Men’s World Cup. McWilliams previously held the same role with Ireland’s team during the 2014 Women’s World Cup.

At the domestic level the 41-year-old coached St. Michael’s College in his native Ireland before heading up Leinster’s u19 program. He arrived in the USA to take over as Director of Rugby at Yale in 2014, where he has remained since. McWilliams also led the Men’s Collegiate All-Americans from 2015 to 2017.

It’s the fourth new Head Coach confirmed for the 2020 season. Peter Borlase has been promoted at Glendale, Paul Healy is the new top man for the Houston SaberCats, and Kees Lensing has filled the vacancy for the Seattle Seawolves.
