San Diego re-sign Louis Stanfill for 2020

Former USA Eagles lock Louis Stanfill is the latest player to re-sign with San Diego for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 34-year-old is the 13th player to sign a contract extension with the Legion in the off-season, eight of them forwards.

After flirting with retirement following Rugby World Cup 2015, Stanfill suited up for one game with Austin Elite during the inaugural 2018 MLR season. He signed for San Diego ahead of the 2019 season and played a major part in their success, starting 16 games and earning a spot on the Eagles long-list for RWC 2019.

The Legion now boast a second row corps that will be envy of the entire league. Stanfill and fellow returnees Siaosi Mahoni and Keni Nasoqeqe are joined by arriving pair Dom Day from Saracens and Austin captain Ben Mitchell. It’s unclear if late-season arrival Joshua Furno will return to MLR next season. The Italian international is currently playing for Wellington in the Mitre 10 Cup.
