O’Toole signs short-term deal with Glasgow Warriors

There will be two USA-eligible front row forwards at Glasgow Warriors while the World Cup is taking place. Pat O’Toole has signed a short-term deal with the Guinness Pro 14 club that will see the Houston SaberCats hooker providing cover at Scotstoun until the end of the tournament. The 24-year-old has been training at the club during the summer along with Old Glory’s Jack Iscaro.

O’Toole was one of the top players at his position during the 2019 Major League Rugby season, starting all 16 games for the SaberCats and playing 90% of all possible minutes. He could be considered unlucky to be left out of the USA’s extended training squad with the Eagles suddenly flush with competition for the backup role to starter Joe Taufete’e.

Formerly of Connacht and an Ireland age-grade rep, O’Toole is now tied to the USA after playing for the Selects during the Americas Rugby Challenge. The contract length at Glasgow will allow him to return to MLR for the 2020 season if it is not extended.
