Samoa’s Scott Malolua has been ruled out of playing at the World Cup. Having been named in the final roster for the tournament he will instead miss the tournament to injury. Malolua had been ruled out after having suffered a dislocated shoulder will playing against Australia on the weekend.
Malolua is the second player to be ruled out of the tournament. He follows Fijiian prop Kali Tawake, who had been named in the 31-man roster only to be ruled-out through injury.
The loss of Malolua opens a vacancy at scrum-half. For Pele Cowley this means a place in the World Cup. Aged 26, Cowley was born and raised in New Zealand and qualifies for Samoa via a parent. As such Samoa’s Foreign Born / Raised Players list at RWC 2019 has been updated.
Samoa will compete in Pool A of RWC 2019 against Ireland, Japan, Russia, and Scotland. Samoa begin their RWC campaign on Tuesday, September 24 against Russia in Kumagaya.
