Fiji’s Kalivati Tawake Ruled Out of World Cup

Fiji’s Kalivati Tawake has been ruled Out of playing at the World Cup. Having been named in the final roster for the tournament earlier in the week Tawake will instead miss the tournament to injury.

Head Coach John McKee has replaced Tawake in the 31-man roster with Lee-Roy Atalifo, a player who had been listed as a non-traveling reserve.

Tawake suffered a knee injury playing for Fiji against Tonga on Saturday. At the time of the injury i was expected that he would recover to play in Japan 2019 only for an MRI to have revealed that he has a Grade 2 MCL strain.

The Flying Fijians depart for Japan today. They will play their their opening Pool D match against Australia in Sapporo on September 21. Uruguay will be their second opponents just four days later in Kamaishi.
