RWC Rewind USA: vs Japan in 2003

During the final weeks of waiting for Rugby World Cup 2019 to arrive Americas Rugby News will be taking a look back at some moments from past RWCs involving competitors from the Americas. In week three the feature team is the USA.

In day three of the series the feature is the USA’s pool match against Japan in 2003. The North Americans would complete a convincing 39-26 victory as their ran in five tries to two.

The fixture was the USA Eagles’ third pool match of the tournament. In their opening match they were heartbroken as they fell to a 19-18 loss against Fiji. It came with Mike Hercus missing a conversion on full-time. Both Scotland and France won comfortably against the Eagles in their two other matches.

RWC 2003 was exclusively played in Australia. The Eagles would play all four pool matches on the east coast doing so in Brisbane, Gosford, and Wollongong.
