RWC Rewind Canada: Hassler Scores vs Romania in 2015

During the final weeks of waiting for Rugby World Cup 2019 to arrive Americas Rugby News will be taking a look back at some moments from past RWCs involving competitors from the Americas. In week two the feature team is Canada.

In the final day of the series the feature is Jeff Hassler’s try for Canada vs Romania from RWC 2015 in Leicester, UK. The winger burst through the defense, beating four defenders to score.

The try was converted to give Canada a 15-0 lead in the 45th minute. Unfortunately for Canada they would be unable to add further points as Romania completed the biggest comeback in RWC history. The final result would be 17-15 to the Eastern Europeans.

Canada and Romania will not cross paths at this year’s Rugby World Cup. Instead the North Americans will be up against Italy, Namibia, New Zealand, and South Africa in Pool B. Romania qualified as Europe 1 only to later be disqualified for breaching player eligibility laws.
