Dino Waldren will have a new home in Major League Rugby this season. The USA Eagles tighthead prop has signed a three-year contract with New Orleans that will see him anchoring the Gold scrum through the 2022 campaign. He is the third new signing for NOLA following backs Carl Meyer and Robbie Coleman.
A late arrival for the San Diego Legion in 2019, Waldren played the last six games of the season after departing RFU Championship club London Scottish. He had spent two seasons at the Athletic Ground but managed only one game for the Exiles in 2018-19 due to injury and international call-ups.
It’s welcome news for the 28-year-old, who has been frustrated in 2019. Waldren played every match for the Eagles on their November European tour and again during the Americas Rugby Championship, but has suddenly found himself out of favor ahead of the Rugby World Cup.
He bolsters a NOLA front row that already has Eric Howard, Matt Harmon, and Kevin Sullivan under contract for the new season with Cam Falcon also expected to continue with the side. It’s not yet clear how this will affect the future of Ben Tarr – another Eagles prop – who is the incumbent starter at tighthead for the Gold.
