Ryan Matyas signs San Diego extension

Ryan Matyas is the latest USA international to extend his stay at Torero Stadium. The 28-year-old has signed a new deal with the San Diego Legion. Having signed a two-year deal in December 2018, the new agreement will see him through at least the end of the 2021 Major League Rugby season.

It’s been a frustrating year for Matyas. After forcing his way into the Eagles side on the November tour, injury saw him miss out on the Americas Rugby Championship and seven games during the MLR campaign. He was then named in the extended squad ahead of the Pacific Nations Cup but looks set to be left out when the World Cup team is named on September 8.

San Diego will be hoping some rest and a fresh start in the new season will see Matyas return to his best form. Having switched between outside center and wing for the Legion, it remains to be seen where Rob Hoadley prefers one of his best attacking players in 2020.
