Belize Gain Regional and World Rugby Membership

Rugby Americas North and World Rugby have gained a new associate member union, Belize. The Central American country joined both entities on Saturday, remarkably doing so after just four years of existence.

Belize’s southern neighbor, Guatemala is a Sudamérica Rugby member. The same is true of all other continental Central American countries. Belize, however, has closer historic ties to British colonies in the region.

Not withstanding the entrance of Belize into official international competition will likely not be restricted to Rugby Americas North. As has been the case over recent years the relationship between the north and south governing bodies of the Americas has mutual benefits.

Belize is to the 19th Rugby Americas North member. The existing members are defined in three categories, as shown below. For further information on Rugby Americas North members click here.
