Long-term deals for Gale and Foley at the Gold

Australian duo Scott Gale and Con Foley have committed their long-term futures to the NOLA Gold. Gale has added two years to his existing contract with Foley signing on for three more, taking them through the 2022 Major League Rugby season.

Having been used primarily as a scrumhalf with the Queensland Reds in Super Rugby, Gale switched to flyhalf for the Gold in the 2019 season. He made the adjustment quickly and showed a strong tactical kicking game with his left boot to go with his long passing ability. The 24-year-old started 12 games for the side and scored two tries, adding three conversions.

Long-time Australia Sevens international Foley, 26, joined the club after missing out on a Super Rugby deal. He made an immediate impression, starting all 16 games for the club at inside center and playing 98% of all possible minutes – leaving the pitch only to serve two yellow cards. He scored three tries and proved both an elusive runner and effective distributor.

The Gold have now secured a dozen returning players for the 2020 season, all but one on multi-year contracts. Another Australian, former Brumbies utility back Robbie Coleman, will join the club next season along with former Dragons fullback Carl Meyer.
