Sudamérica XV roster named to face Uruguay

The Sudamérica XV roster has been named for the upcoming international match against Uruguay. The composite South American team will consist of international players from Argentina, Brazil, and Chile and will face Los Teros in Montevideo on Saturday, August 24.

For Uruguay, the fixture will be the first of three RWC warm-up matches. The other two will also be in Montevideo with matches scheduled against the Argentina XV, and Brazil.

For Brazil’s players involved for the Sudamérica XV they will have two opportunities at facing the RWC 2019 bound Uruguayans. Leading Tupis selected for the Sudamérica XV include Lucas Abud, André Arruda, Wilton Rebolo, Josh Reeves, Felipe Sancery, and Luiz Vieira. There is also an opportunity for Argentine-born prop Joel Ramírez, who plays his club rugby for Jacareí in Brazil.

Chile’s representation comes in the form of forwards Augusto Böhme, Matías Dittus, Martín Sigren, Ignacio Silva and midfielder Vicente Ayarza. Both Sigren and Silva played for Chile against the Sudamérica XV in 2018. The Sudamérica XV had two matches last November. The matches were against the test sides of Chile and Paraguay and saw the composite side winning both fixtures.

There are four included who played their club rugby outside South America during the past season. Second row Vieira is at Tyrosse in France, Argentine prop Mauro Genco is at VRAC in Spain, Josh Reeves played for the Utah Warriors of Major League Rugby, and former Pumas 7s winger Nicolás Coronel turned out for Italian club Lazio.

Not considered for the Sudamérica XV are players from Colombia or Paraguay. The reason for this is that these two countries are to be facing each other as well as the Cayman Islands and Mexico in the Americas Rugby Challenge which begins on Sunday, August 25, in Medellín.
