Chile outperform Mexico u20s

Chile outperformed Mexico, running out 66-18 on Wednesday. The match was a second round fixture in the Americas Rugby Challenge u20s in Asunción, Paraguay.

Chile led the match from start to finish. They began well with Guillermo Vatter opening the scoring in the second minute. He would follow up his early try by bagging a double just 8 minutes into the contest. With it Chile were leading 12-0.

Mexico would get their opening points in the 18th minute. The points came in the form of a penalty slotted by Guillermo Villalpando and saw Las Serpientes 18-3 behind.

Vatter would convert Chile’s next try with Jorge Delgado doing the scoring. Mexico, though, were enjoying a notable period of play and would hit-back through Fernando Anduaga with Villalpando adding the extras.

Matías Garafulic crossed for Chile two minutes later with Mexico again hitting back, this time via a Villalpando penalty. With it the first half scoring ended with Chile ahead 26-13.

Chile’s superiority would trump Mexico’s heart in the second half. Tries to Joaquín Milesi, Guillermo Vatter, and Garafulic (2) took Los Cóndores out to a 52-13 lead.

Mexico responded in the final quarter with Diego Sánchez scoring an unconverted try. It would be the final points of the match from Las Serpientes. At the other end Chile would score two more with Vatter converting tries to Cristóbal Escobar, and Baltazar Jana.

Both Chile and Mexico will play again on Saturday. In the final round of the inaugural Americas Rugby Challenge u20s Chile face Paraguay in the final while Mexico take-on Colombia in the Bronze Final.
