Eddie Jones Names England’s 31-man RWC Roster

Head Coach Eddie Jones has named England’s 31-man roster for RWC 2019. The squad is made-up exclusively of players from the English Premiership and has a balance of 17 forwards, and 14 backs.

Included in the roster is uncapped winger Ruaridh McConnochie, a player from the England 7’s team. He joins hooker Jack Singleton,  flanker Lewis Ludlum and New Zealand born and raised scrum-half Willi Heinz as the newcomers in the roster. Singleton, Ludlum and Heinz all debuted for England against Wales on Sunday.

Missing are New Zealand imports Brad Shields, and Ben Te’o. The former is out of the RWC through injury while the later has been excluded with Jones preferring Piers Francis instead.

Captaining England will be fly half Owen Farrell. He is to be surrounded by vastly experienced players including Dan Cole, Courtney Lawes, and Ben Youngs who all played in RWCs 2011, and 2015.

England are to play in Pool C of RWC 2019. The group has legitimately labeled the Pool of Death due to it containing three heavyweights in Argentina, England, and France as well as no Tier 3 side with both Tonga, and the USA being vastly reputable competitors.

England’s RWC 2019 campaign will begin in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo against Tonga on September 22. From there England will face the USA in Kobe on September 26; Argentina in Tokyo on October 05; and France in Yokohama on Saturday October 12.
