Americas Rankings – August 11 2019

Following the completion of international competition this weekend the Americas Rankings have been updated for August 11 2019. They take into consideration results from Pacific Nations Cup matches involving competitors from the Americas as well as the Rugby Championship.

Canada’s 33-23 defeat against Tonga saw the world’s no15 winning against the world’s no21 on the neutral territory of Fiji. The gulf in the points between the two competitors meant that neither side’s ranking was altered based on the result of the match.

Also playing in Fiji were two additional Pacific Nations Cup matches. The USA faced Japan and were beaten 34-20. This result saw the teams exchanging 0.59 points which sees the USA falling below Italy in the World Rankings to now be 14th.

Argentina’s horrific performance against comes at a great cost. With Fiji, and Japan both winning Los Pumas’ 46-13 hammering by South Africa sees a further fall in the World Rankings. Argentina dropped 0.52 points to now have a ranking of 76.28 points and be 11th in the world with Japan 9th, and Fiji 10th.

Also being played this weekend was an Americas Rugby North international between the Cayman Islands and the USA South Panthers. With the Panthers not being an official test match side, representing a World Rugby defined sovereign nation, no rankings points were involved in the fixture.

The Americas Rankings will be updated again next weekend. Playing in South Africa will be Argentina in a non-Rugby Championship fixture. It is to be the final test match for the South Americans before the RWC, making it the final opportunity to gain rankings points before playing in Japan.
