Gold extensions for Yungert and Tonga’uiha

The NOLA Gold’s re-signing spree continues as two more key players have extended their stay at the club for a further two seasons. Scrumhalf Holden Yungert and flanker Moni Tonga’uiha have committed to New Orleans through the 2021 Major League Rugby season.

Yungert has started all 24 of the Gold’s MLR fixtures across the first two campaigns, one of only two players across the league to do so along with Houston’s Sam Windsor. The 26-year-old has been a consistent performer for the side with his quick service suiting NOLA’s attacking style. Having earned USA Selects recognition in 2017 and 2018, many feel he is unlucky not to have added a full Eagles cap.

The full-time transition from center to flanker was completed by Tonga’uiha in 2019. He began the season playing for Life West in the Pacific Rugby Premiership before returning to the Gold against Utah in early March. Thereafter the 24-year-old appeared in every game, most often as a second half substitute to inject pace and power to the forward pack.

Previous re-signing for NOLA include front rowers Matt Harmon and Eric Howard, utility forwards Nikola Bursic and Kyle Baillie, and backfielders Tristan Blewett and JP Eloff.
