Colombia defeat Brazil to claim Bronze at Pan Am Games

In a stunning upset result Colombia defeated Brazil to claim the Bronze Medal at the 2019 Pan American Games. Taking place in Lima, Peru the Bronze Final saw As Yaras facing Las Tucanes with the Brazilians being firm favorites.

Lima 2019 is the third edition of the Pan American Games feature Rugby 7’s, but the second featuring women’s rugby. The first was four years ago where at Toronto 2015 Brazil claimed Bronze in the women’s tournament. The same result was expected today only for Colombia to defeat Brazil at claim the medal.

The Colombians were 29-24 winners against Brazil. With it Las Tucanes celebrated the greatest result in the history of Colombian women’s rugby, and one of the most significant of all-time in both Colombian men’s and women’s rugby.

The result marked the first time ever that Colombia gave beaten Brazil in women’s competition. The extent of the upset is underlined by the fact that Brazil is undefeated in 15 consecutive South American 7’s competitions.

Competing for Gold in the Women’s Final at the Pan American Games are the USA, and Canada. Both were convincing winners in their respective Semi Finals.
