Jaguares bring home prop Sclavi from France

The 2019 Super Rugby season may have only just ended but recruitment for the 2020 season is underway. The Bulls have brought Scottish No8 Josh Strauss back home to South Africa; James O’Connor is back in Australia; Beauden Barrett has moved to the Blues and Los Jaguares have brought home a prop from France.

The first new addition for Los Jaguares in 2020 is Joel Sclavi. The 25-year-old tight head prop will join the Argentine Super Rugby franchise for the 2020 pre-season, doing so after previously playing for Guernika in Spain, and Pau, Charente, and Agen in France.

While playing for Pau, Sclavi did so under the watching eyes of Andrés Bordoy. They worked together with broody coaching Sclavi and now they are set to reunite at home in Super Rugby.

For Sclavi the move home from France to Los Jaguares has been sought by the UAR for several years. In the inaugural season in 2016 there was contact from the UAR seeking Sclavi when he had joined Pau. Then in late 2017 Mario Ledesma was interested when he was contracted to Charente.

Sclavi will remain in France with Agen until the end of 2019, doing so as a Medical Joker. He will then arrive in Buenos Aires to begin a three-year contract. He will join Santiago Medrano, Enrique Pieretto, and Lucio Soroni to give Los Jaguares four specialist tight head props.

Unlike the three others Sclavi has experience playing in Europe. He went to play in Spain at the age of 21. Now aged 25 he will have the opportunity of pushing for a test career.
