Boris Stankovich to coach Canadian scrum

Leicester Tigers scrum coach and former prop Boris Stankovich has been recruited to help the Canadian set piece for the Pacific Nations Cup and Rugby World Cup. The New Zealander takes over the role previously occupied by former Italian international Massimo Cuttitta, who worked with the side during the World Cup Repechage series this past November.

Stankovich moved to England after attending the renowned Kelston Boys High School in Auckland, playing for London Irish and earning international selection for his adopted country at under-19 and under-21 level. He then spent seven years in France with Graulhet and Albi before joining Leicester in 2007.

After more than a hundred appearances for the club and three Premiership titles Stankovich joined the Dragons as a player coach in 2014, returning to Leicester in 2016. The 39-year-old has been a regular sighting on the sideline since as the club’s scrum specialist with both academy and senior sides.

As well as working with the test side, Stankovich will be working with Ray Barkwill as part of the now-retired hooker’s coaching development. He arrives from Tigers for the start of Canada’s PNC training camp next week and will return to Leicester at the tournament’s completion, rejoining the camp at the beginning of September.
