Jaguares XV debut with win over Griffons

Los Jaguares XV made their Currie Cup First Division debut with a win today over the Griffons. The Argentine side outscored the hosts by 50-43 in round one of the competition.

The high scoring match saw free-flowing rugby with a total of thirteen tries scored. The opening try came from the Griffons with fullback Domenic Smit finishing off a break from fly half Danrich Visagie to score.

The Jaguares XV responded swiftly and with force. Scrum-half Gregório del Prete ran in two tries, firstly doing so from the base of a ruck; and secondly by providing support to Martín Elías who off-loaded following a break from Rodrigo Bruni.

Bruni would score next, crossing for the fifth try of the match. With it Los Jaguares XV would take a 21-17 lead into half-time.

The open game from the first half would be no different in the second. A second try from Smit would see the Griffons back in front but they would immediately find themselves trailing again as the visitors would hit-back after every Griffons try.

Making his comeback from injury in the match was Gonzalo Bertranou. The first choice Argentine scrum-half was badly injured after just one round of Super Rugby this year. His spot in the test side is now in doubt with Tomás Cubelli, and Felipe Ezcurra having filled-in for the duration of the season.
