Currie Cup First Division Preview – Griffons vs Jaguares XV

The competitive debut appearance of Argentine side the Jaguares XV will take place on Saturday. The development side will play against the Down Touch Griffons in the opening round of the Currie Cup First Division in South Africa.

The Jaguares XV are coached by former Puma Ignacio Fernández Lobbe. The Head Coach takes up the mantle directly from the Argentina XV and has a roster with regular names from that very side.

With the Argentina XV having been used as the production line below Los Jaguares the Jaguares XV is to take on that objective over the coming weeks in the Currie Cup.

Fernández Lobbe has Jaguares players in his side to face the Griffons. They are players requiring game-time due to either limited opportunities in Super Rugby this season or due to their return from injury.

Jaguares XV players with Super Rugby experience come in the form of loose head Javier Díaz; flanker Francisco Gorrisen, N8 Rodrigo Bruni; and inside center Bautista Ezcurra.

With changes for the 2020 season all involved have plenty to play for. Los Jaguares are to lose Santiago García Botta, Martín Landajo, Tomás Lavanini, and Pablo Matera to European clubs. Their replacements will almost certainly come in the form of Jaguares XV players.

The teams have never met before though there has been a relative match in the past. In 2011 the Pampas XV defeated the Griffons 52-29 in the Vodacom Cup.

The Jaguares XV are favored to win the match by a healthy margin. A Jaguares XV victory by 20 points would is the projected result of the match.
