Stade Français confirms departure of Sergio Parisse

Stade Français have released a brief statement communicating the departure of long-time club captain Sergio Parisse. The Italian international, a native of Argentina, has been with the club since 2005 after joining from Benetton Treviso, playing more than 200 games in the Top 14 alone.

Parisse had another year on his contract but leaves by mutual consent. While it has not been stated by either the club or the player, it’s now expected that Parisse will call time on a glittering career following the completion of the 2019 World Cup, before which he will celebrate his 36th birthday.

Long considered among the best forwards in the European game, he won two Top 14 titles with Stade and lifted the European Challenge Cup in 2017. His 138 test caps are 4th all-time, just 10 behind record-holder Richie McCaw, while his 69 Six Nations appearances are a record, four more than Brian O’Driscoll.
