Jamaica name men’s squad for Olympic Qualifiers

Jamaica have confirmed their 12-man roster for the upcoming Rugby Americas North Olympic Qualifier tournament in George Town. The two-day tournament kicks off on Saturday, July 6, with the winner handed a direct spot at Tokyo 2020.

Nine of the group that competed at the HSBC Core Qualifier event in Hong Kong earlier this year retain their spot. Among them are experienced captain Conan Osborne, former London Welsh winger Ashley Smith, and Richmond scrumhalf Rhodri Adamson. Omar Dixon has fully recovered from a serious eye injury suffered at Hong Kong in 2017.

There has been strong coaching influence during Jamaica’s preparations. Two-time USA Rugby Coach of the Year Stephen Lewis was brought on to lead the side last month while former England hooker and current USA performance coach Phil Greening hosted the side at The Athlete Factory.

The Crocs have been drawn in Pool B for the tournament along with Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, and hosts Cayman. Pool A features favorites Canada, Bermuda, Mexico, and Barbados. All matches will be streamed live on the Rugby Americas North social media channels.
