South American Men’s Olympic Qualifiers Coming Up in Chile

From June 29-30 the South American men’s countries will be played in Santiago, Chile. An Olympic qualifying spot is on the line with the winners joining the Brazilian women who successfully qualified for Tokyo 2020.

Not only will be winning men’s team in Santiago qualify for the 2020 Olympics but there is also a place on the line in this year’s Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Already confirmed for Lima 2019 from South America are Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. The best placed side from the remaining sides in Santiago will qualify for the Pan American Games.

There is even further to play for as the 2nd and 3rd placed teams from Santiago will enter the global repechage. The location of the tournament remains unconfirmed but it will enable runners-up from all of the World Rugby regions to compete again to qualify for Tokyo 2020.

Competing in Santiago will be five teams in two pools of five. The pools have been constructed based on rankings. They are to be as follows:

The tournament will take place at Old Grangonian Club, in Chicureo. It will begin at 2pm on Saturday June 29 and conclude on Sunday June 30 at 6:42pm.
