Landry and Benn make World Rugby Dream Team

Two Canadians have been named in World Rugby’s Dream Team for the 2018-19 HSBC Women’s Sevens Series. Britt Benn and Ghislaine Landry are rewarded for their outstanding seasons and are the only players from the Americas included. The USA did not have any named despite finishing 2nd overall.

It’s in the forwards where Benn has been selected, though she is equally capable of playing center. She scored 12 tries over the course of the season but it’s her contributions in the contact area that makes her a fan favorite and one of Canada’s most important players. Benn earned individual honors at the Dubai tournament in December.

Landry’s selection is no surprise. The all-time points leader on the circuit finished in second on the scoring charts with her 202 count just five behind New Zealand’s Tyla Nathan-Wong. Her tournament selection was limited to Kitakyushu this past season.

The other forwards named are New Zealand pair Sarah Hirini (née Goss) and Ruby Tui. Their teammate Nathan-Wong is among the backs. Also getting the nod are France flyer Anne-Cécile Ciofani, and the circuit’s leading try scorer Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe of Ireland.

It’s the second overall Dream Team selection for Benn, who along with Landry was also named at the end of the 2016-17 season. For Landry it’s her third, her first coming in 2015-16.
