Chile and Spain continued their international rivalry on Saturday. In the sixth test match between the countries Los Leones were 29-22 winners.
Prior matches date back to 1995. The first international between the teams was won by Chile 28-23. Los Cóndores also won the second fixture, doing so 20-18 in 1999. The four subsequent matches have seen Spain winning – 30-25 in 2007, 26-3 in 2013, 54-10 in 2015, and 29-22 yesterday.
The match was the second of a three match tour to South America for the Spanish. Their opening match also saw a narrow victory with Los Leones downing Brazil 22-16 in Osasco, São Paulo.
Spain’s South American tour will conclude next Saturday. Los Leones will face Uruguay in Montevideo. The match is ideal for Uruguay as it gives them a challenge and a way of regaining some of the rankings points lost by their defeat against Namibia.
