Americas Rankings – June 16 2019

Following the competition of a busy weekend of international activity the Americas Rankings have been updated. Calculations for the June 16 2019 edition take into account the June Internationals on Saturday in South America.

In Montevideo Uruguay humbled the Argentina XV. The match saw the home side in control throughout as the visitors were outperformed with Los Teros claiming one of their best results of the year. No rankings points were on the line due to it not being a test match involving the capped XVs of both countries.

Chile were not expected to be competitive in he June Internationals yet they proved that with players back from Europe and Los Cóndores 7’s they are a stronger outfit. Wins did not come but both Romania, and Spain were forced to play the full 80 minutes for their respective wins.

Against Spain on Saturday Los Cóndores were close to securing a draw. Ultimately the win went the way of Los Leones by 29-22. The Americas Rankings – June 16 2019 see Chile losing 0.195 points. With it the updated rankings have Chile on 54.55 points.

Brazil’s agonizing 22-21 defeat against Romania sees added frustration. The home defeat means a rankings loss of 0.518 points. The updated Americas Rankings thereby see Brazil falling from 58.36 to 57.84 points. In the World Rankings this represents a fall below Belgium to now be 27th in the world.

The June Internationals will conclude next weekend. Playing in Montevideo will be Uruguay vs Spain. With the teams ranked 17th, and 19th in the world it is a fixture will more on the line than just the result.
