Brazil to Face Romania, Spain in São Paulo State

Brazil is to face Romania, and Spain in São Paulo state. The CBRu has confirmed the location for the two home June Internationals as being Osasco, and Jundiaí, both of which have previously hosted Tupis matches this year.

The Estádio José Liberatti in Osasco will play host to Brazil vs Spain on Saturday, June 08. The fixture will be historic in that it will mark the first time that Brazil plays host to the European country in a test match.

Further history will take place seven days later Brazil will play 49km to the north against Romania. The Estádio Jayme Cintra in Jundiái hosted the Americas Rugby Championship match against Chile in March, and will be the setting for the Tupis vs Oaks on Saturday June 15.

The first visit of both Spain, and Romania to Brazil will be the second test match for Os Tupis against both opponents. In June 2017 Brazil faced Romania in Bucharest, losing 56-5 against a line-up including one Sione Faka’osilea.

Os Tupis returned to Europe for a second time in 2017, doing so as part of the November Internationals. The tour saw the South Americans playing against Spain for the first time, losing 67-28.

Brazil’s rise in recent years has enabled the vast improvement in the quantity, and quality of international competition. Both Spain, and Romania have RWC experience with the former playing in RWC 1999 and the latter playing in all RWCs from 1987-2015. Both countries were disqualified from RWC 2019 qualifiers for breaching player eligibility laws.
