San Diego signs Italian lock Joshua Furno

The San Diego Legion have moved to strengthen their second row resources with the late-season acquisition of Italian international Joshua Furno. Standing 6’7″ (2.01m), the 29-year-old brings lineout presence and also considerable experience having won 37 caps for the Azzurri including four starts in the 2015 World Cup.

Born in Melbourne, Australia, Furno moved to Benevento, Italy, at the age of six where he played with the local club until earning Italy u20 honors in 2008. He then moved to Viadana and was quickly snapped up by Pro 12 club Aironi in 2010. He made his test debut the following year.

Two seasons in France followed, with Narbonne and then Biarritz, followed by two seasons with Newcastle Falcons in the English Premiership. Furno returned to Italy with Zebre before joining Otago for the Mitre 10 Cup in 2017, and most recently played for the Western Force in Perth, Australia.

Also arriving in San Diego is USA international David Tameilau. He joins on loan from Glasgow Warriors until the end of the season. Tameilau played for the Utah Warriors during the inaugural Major League Rugby season and signed a two-year deal with Glasgow in May 2018.

Both players are immediately available for the Legion and are expected to play for the side against New Orleans on Sunday.
