Canada call Coats and Morra to Paris

Canada has been forced into a pair of changes ahead of this weekend’s final round of the 2018-19 HSBC Sevens Series. Connor Braid and Justin Douglas have been ruled out of the Paris event with Cooper Coats and Josiah Morra called in as replacements.

Braid’s injury means he won’t be in the running for the overall season DHL Impact Player award that he has led for much of the season. Of greater concern will be his return to fitness for the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers in early July.

Coats, 22, was called up for the Cape Town tournament in December but is yet to make an appearance on the circuit. 21-year-old Morra has played 18 matches across 9 tournaments since making his debut at Cape Town in 2016.

Currently 11th overall, Canada hold just a three-point advantage over Spain heading into Paris. The two sides will face each other in Pool C along with the USA and Samoa.

All matches will be streamed live for Canadian viewers on the CBC Sports website.
