Argentina XV Roster Includes Big Name Jaguares For Nations Cup

Argentina XV Head Coach Ignacio Fernández Lobbe has included big name players from Los Jaguares for the Nations Cup. Taking place in Montevideo, Uruguay in June the Argentina XV will play three matches.

Fernández Lobbe’s roster contains 30 names. Four of them are from the current Jaguares roster – Rodrigo Bruni, Bautista Ezcurra, Martín Landajo, and Juan Cruz Mallía. All four are being given the opportunity to have increased game time due to limited opportunities thus far in 2019.

Both Bruni, and Ezcurra remain in the Argentina XV roster after having played in this past Saturday’s win over Brazil. They were joined by former Jaguares winger Manuel Montero in the match. He will also play in the Nations Cup.

The most notable inclusion is that of Martín Landajo. Under Daniel Hourcade he was the first choice Argentine scrum-half but he now faces an uphill battle to be selected for RWC 2019. His last game of Super Rugby was on March 15 against the Stormers in Cape Town.

Los Jaguares’ match this coming Saturday will see Juan Cruz Mallía starting at fullback. It is to be his first match since facing the Stormers on May 04 in Buenos Aires.

The Argentina XV will begin their Nations Cup campaign on June 04 against Namibia; Game two will be against Russia on June 09; while the final match will be against Uruguay on June 15.

The Nations Cup is to be the third international competition for the Argentina XV in 2019. The Argentine next of XV won the Grand Slam in the Americas Rugby Championship, and was also unbeaten in the Sudamérica 6 Naciones A.
