Bayonne Win Promotion to Top 14 via Bustos Moyano

Bayonne has won promotion from the Pro D2 to the Top 14. The Basque club succeeded in doing so today by defeating Brive 21-19. Former Argentine fullback Martín Bustos Moyano was not only a part of the winning effort but was instrumental as he scored the winning points.

Remarkably for Bayonne, and Bustos Moyano lightening has indeed struck twice. Back in 2016 Bustos Moyano scored all 21 points for Bayonne over Aurillac to win promotion to the Top 14.

In today’s final Bustos Moyano was a replacement, albeit an early one. Four minutes into the game saw him initially coming on as a blood replacement for Romain Barthelémy. He would kick an 11th minute penalty before Barthelémy returned.

Later in the match Bustos Moyano reappeared in the match and landed three penalties. The last of which came with time up and saw the Córdoba outside back striking the ball cleanly over from 25 meters out for Bayonne to win promotion to the Top 14.

In losing Brive are now to face Grenoble in a promotion – relegation fixture. The winner of that match will play in the 2019-2020 Top 14 while the loser will play in the Pro D2. Involved in the Pro D2 Final today for Brive was 2016 Argentine Olympian Axel Muller.
