South Americans in MLR – Week 18 Preview

The penultimate round of Major League Rugby (MLR) gets underway today. With the play-off’s equation remaining open there is plenty to look forward to this weekend. South American fans have plenty to look forward to with Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay all to have players involved.

The opening fixture of week 18 is also to be the only Saturday match. It is to be the battle of Texas with the Houston SaberCats having home advantage against the Austin Elite. Four Uruguayan players will feature with Mateo Sanguinetti starting at loose head prop, Diego Magno, at lock, and Alejandro Nieto at N8 for Houston. Starting for the Elite will be Rodrigo Silva at fly half while the Argentine-born JP Aguirre will start at outside center.

On Sunday a further Uruguayan will take to the field in the USA with Ignacio Dotti starting for NOLA Gold against New York. He will again play out of position at flanker rather than second-row. Joining him in the run-on team will be Chile’s Nikola Bursic who will start in the second-row.

In Canada the Toronto Arrows host the Glendale Raptors in Canada. The match-up will see Uruguayan outside backs starting with Leandro Leivas playing on the left wing, and Gastón Mieres at fullback.

Also playing on Sunday will be the Seattle Seawolves at home against the Utah Warriors. Brazilian fly half Josh Reeves, and N8 Arthur Bergo are both to feature. Reeves will start the match in the 10 shirt while Bergo will feature as a replacement.
