Canada set for final leg of Sevens Series

Canada has confirmed its final roster for the London Sevens, the penultimate event of the 2018-19 HSBC Series with only Paris yet to come. The two-day Twickenham tournament begins early Saturday morning for Canadian viewers.

Taking over the reigns as interim coach is Henry Paul, who assumes direction of the team after Damian McGrath was unceremoniously just three weeks ago. It was another unwanted distraction for the team that has struggled to find consistent form this season. A player strike wiped out most of the preseason while injuries to key personnel has also hampered progress.

The team is close to full strength to start the European leg with playmaker Lucas Hammond a notable absentee. Returning to the team is Adam Zaruba while four players with 50 or more appearances are named in Nate Hirayama, Harry Jones, Mike Fuailefau, and Justin Douglas.

While currently in 12th spot, Canada remain on course to achieve Olympic Qualification largely thanks to the form of the USA, who are set to achieve their automatic qualification target this weekend. As a result the Canadians will enter the North American qualifying event as heavy favorites.

South Africa, Argentina, and Japan await Canada in the pool stages at London. A complete fixture schedule can be seen here. All matches will be streamed live on the CBC Sports website.
