Houston adds Darren Morris to coaching staff

The Houston SaberCats have moved to add former Wales prop Darren Morris to their coaching staff with immediate effect. A long-time professional player and member of the 2001 British & Irish Lions tour to Australia, Morris will act as forwards coach under interim head coach Paul Emerick, filling a gap left by the recent departure of Justin Fitzpatrick.

After winning 18 caps for his country and spending several seasons in the English Premiership, Morris called time on his playing career in 2010. He immediately began full-time coaching, though he returned to the field briefly as a player-coach with Doncaster in 2013. In between he had a two-year stint as forwards coach with Russia starting in 2012.

Most recently Morris has been in Texas, acting as Director of Rugby of the Dallas Reds, who he joined in September 2017. The 44-year-old had been tipped for a role in Major League Rugby for some time and now has his opportunity with the SaberCats.
