Canadian international Matt Beukeboom has signed a two-year senior contract with French Pro D2 side Montauban. The 22-year-old departs Pau with one year remaining on his academy deal to take up the fully professional offer with an eye to getting first team experience next season.
Beukeboom spent three seasons with Pau, joining the team in 2016 on an academy contract and signing a three-year extension in 2017. Despite receiving high praise from the coaching staff and being included in the senior training group, he did not make a first team appearance in that time.
The younger brother of World Cup lock Brett, Matt made his test debut for Canada against Chile in the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship. He has yet to add to his three caps from that tournament with injuries restricting his availability. The 6’6″ (1.98m) lock or blindside flanker could yet find himself in the extended training squad for the upcoming World Cup.
