Canada to host USA in Vancouver in September

Canada is to play host to the USA in Vancouver in September. The North American countries will battle-it-out in what is to be the final match for both before departing for RWC 2019 in Japan.

The match itself is to be played at BC Place in Vancouver. The selection of the Vancouver stadium as the venue means top class rugby will be played in both east and west Canada in the lead-up to RWC 2019.

Hamilton, Ontario will play host to Canada vs Leinster in June. From there Canada will play on the road, facing the USA in Glendale, Colorado; Fiji in Suva; and Tonga in Lautoka.

The healthy number of fixtures will enable the Kingsley Jones regime to take a well-prepared team to Japan. Expected to be included is Jeff Hassler who last week signed for the Seattle Seawolves, thereby completing his run to rugby.

The date of the Canada vs USA match in Vancouver will be Saturday, September 07. All players will be free for selection and, as such, Canada will be in its strongest position this RWC cycle to defeat the Eagles.

Canada’s last win was in 2013 with a 13-11 win in Toronto. Since then there has been ten matches between the countries with the USA winning 9 and the teams competing to a 28-28 draw in Hamilton, Ontario in 2017.

BC Place is no stranger to international rugby. In addition to hosting the annual Canadian leg of the HSBC World Sevens it has also played host to Canada vs Japan, Maori All Blacks, and Uruguay.

The allocation of the match to BC Place this coming September also ends a long drought. The last time Vancouver played host to a Canada vs USA match was in 2003 at Thunderbird Park.
