USA 3rd, Canada 5th in Langford 7’s

The USA Women’s Eagles 7’s side finished 3rd this weekend in the Langford 7’s while Canada finished 5th. The competition was won by New Zealand who defeated Australia 21-17 in the final which saw them booking their place at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

New Zealand got to the final after defeating the USA in the Cup Semi Finals. The Eagles would rebound from their loss against the Black Fearns to defeat France 26-5 to claim the bronze medal. It marked consecutive Bronze Medals for the Eagles in Langford.

The USA had reached the Semi Finals after their Quarter Final victory over Canada. Alev Kelter scored early to which Canada responded through Charity Williams. The competitive Quarter Final ultimately went the way of the USA with a second half try to Kelter sealing the win.

Also competing in Langford were Brazil. As Yaras competed for 9th place finish on day two only to fall to a 32-14 defeat against Fiji. The loss sent them into an 11th place final match against Ireland. The Europeans dominated the fixture, winning 54-7 which meant Brazil finished in 12th.

Results from Langford see the USA in second position for the season behind New Zealand. The Blacks Fearns have 92 competition points while the USA have 80. Canada are in third position on 78 points ahead of Australia on 74.
