The Turks & Caicos Islands were too strong for the British Islands, winning 31-12 on the road today in Tortola. The win sees the Flamingoes dominating the Rugby Americas North (RAN) North Championship with a 2-0 record.
Today’s victory takes the unbeaten run by the Flamingoes up to 6. The win was celebrated with tribute given to Gareth Butler who was completing in his testimonial game and was a try scorer.
Last month the Turks & Caicos Islands scored a last minute win over the Dominican Republic. Their 24-20 combined with beating the British Virgin Islands sees them untouchable in the RAN South Cup.
Still to play is the Dominican Republic vs British Virgin Islands fixture. The date of the match is yet to be confirmed by authorities.
The three island nations account for half of the 2019 RAN Cup. The remaining competitors played earlier in the year in the RAN South Cup. It was won by Martinique who defeated both Barbados, and Curaçao.
In a different format in 2018 the Dominican Republic finished 2nd in the RAN Cup, falling to Guadeloupe in the final game. One year earlier the Dominican Republic and the Turks & Caicos Islands squared-off with the Turks & Caicos Islands being 24-15 winners.
