Highlights: RWC 1991 Final

RWC 1991 was the second ever Rugby World Cup. It was vastly different to the inaugural event which had been hosted by Australia, and New Zealand in 1987. The second edition saw England, France, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales all hosting with the England hosting the tournament opener and final.

As was the case in the 1987 RWC Final one of the team’s contesting the final was the home side. England reached the final despite having lost the opening match against New Zealand. Their opposition in the final was Australia, a team to have been playing excellent rugby yet one to narrowly have avoided a Quarter Finals exit against Ireland.

The RWC 1991 Final would be played at London’s Twickenham Stadium. The same venue would host both Semi Finals in RWC 1999, and be the center-piece for RWC 2015.

As the countdown continues to this year’s RWC in Japan be sure to watch the highlights of the 1991 tournament final.

Involved in the RWC 1991 Final were World Rugby Hall of Famers Rob Andrew, Jeremy Guscott, and Jason Leonard (England); and David Campese, John Eales, Nick Farr-Jones, Tim Horan, and Michael Lynagh (Australia). Also inducted is Bob Dywer, Australia’s RWC winning coach at the 1991 tournament.
