Rugby United New York have enlisted the services of former Leinster and Ireland u20 hooker Sean McNulty for the remainder of the Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old joins the club on loan from the New England Free Jacks, who he is committed for in the 2020 season.
McNulty was due to cover for incumbent hooker Dylan Fawsitt while he was on Eagles duty earlier this season, but was instead ruled out and also missed the recent Cara Cup Series hosted by the Free Jacks. The 23-year-old spent the past three seasons training with Leinster’s senior side after graduating from the academy program. He played for Ireland u20s in 2014 and 2015.
Born in England to Irish parents, McNulty moved to New York as a 1-year-old and stayed for 9 years until moving to Bahrain as a 10-year-old and a year later to Ireland. He will meet the 10-year cumulative residency requirements to qualify for the USA in 2020.
RUNY will hand McNulty his MLR debut as a replacement against the Houston SaberCats on Sunday.
