The Southern Japanese city of Kumamoto is ready and excited for Rugby World Cup 2019. Located on the southern island of Kyushu it joins Fukuoka, and Oita in being a host city for this year’s showpiece sporting event.
Kumamoto has been allocated two Rugby World Cup pool matches. They are to both be Sunday matches with France vs Tonga on October 06, and Uruguay vs Wales on October 13. While the second of these will involve a country from the Americas the first is to also be of vital interest as Argentina, and the USA are pooled with France, and Tonga.
Kumamoto Stadium itself is no stranger to rugby. In 2017 it played host to Japan vs Romania. That very fixture was originally to be the tournament opener for RWC 2019. However with Romania disqualified for fielding a player in breach of eligibility Japan will open against Russia.
As World Rugby’s tournament promotional video documents the city of Kumamoto is home to an active volcano, a popular mascot and an ancient castle.
