Paraguay’s Pro Team to consist predominantly of Argentine Players

Paraguay’s proposed professional team for the Liga Sudaméricana de Rugby is to consist predominantly of Argentine players, noted Daniel Hourcade. Following Paraguay’s heavy defeat against Tucumán the Head of the Sudmaérica Rugby High Performance and former Head Coach of Argentina made the statement.

Paraguay were beaten 95-8 by Northern Argentine province Tucumán in a pre-season friendly. The match saw Tucumán having the upper hand throughout to badly expose the Paraguayans.

The match fell one day after Hourcade had given a comprehensive interview with Ignacio Chans in Uruguayan sporting publication Referí. In the interview Hourcade noted that Argentina’s exodus problem is certainly going to be utilized by Paraguay.

The Pumas RWC 2015 Head Coach expressed his view clearly. According to Hourcade Paraguay has ten players ready for the level of competition of the Liga Americana de Rugby. The the first year of the league, likely in 2021, Paraguay would have between 8 and 10 local players with the remainder of the playing roster coming from abroad, presumably from Argentina.

In December the High Performance Center got off the ground in Paraguay.The project began in January and included university scholarships, gym, on-field stimuli, medical assistance, travel expenses, foreign travel insurance, physiotherapy, and all of that which is required for High Performance.
