RFU Championship – Week 21 Preview

The penultimate weekend of the RFU Championship is upon us but the ending is already confirmed. London Irish have defeated Richmond by 46-7 to clinch their spot in the Premiership next season. Bryce Campbell started in the midfield and scored a try in the bonus-point victory.

Also just wrapping up is Nottingham’s home game against the Jersey Reds. Canada’s Shane O’Leary kicked 14 points and set up a try in the 24-20 victory including a last-minute penalty to take the game out of kicking range for Jersey.

Three matches will come on Saturday, two involving Americas players. Nick Civetta starts at lock for Doncaster in their home game against Coventry in one of his final appearances for the club. His destination is unknown but Civetta confirmed in December he would be moving to pastures new at season’s end.

Eagles teammate Ben Landry is on the blindside flank for Ealing against Bedford. Andrew Durutalo will take no further part this season due to suspension. Another friend – Will Hooley – starts at flyhalf for the Blues with Canadian flanker Justin Blanchet on the bench.

Sunday’s only game will see Brett Beukeboom leading out the Cornish Pirates for the 21st time this season with Javier Rojas wearing the No10 shirt. Yorkshire Carnegie are the visitors, a club is turmoil who this week confirmed they will be a part-time outfit next season.
