Cordero Targets Final Round Comeback

Santiago Cordero is targeting a final round comeback for the Exeter Chiefs. The Argentine winger was injured playing this past weekend in the English Premiership and it was feared that his season was over.

Instead positive feedback from the medical staff has diagnosed the 25-year-old as being out of rugby for six to eight weeks. This means there is a chance that he will be fit for the last round of the regular season.

On May 18 the Exeter Chiefs will be up against the Northampton Saints. The fixture will be followed by the English Premiership Semi Finals and Final over subsequent weekends. If Cordero is declared fit he will be free to play in these matches.

The Exeter Chiefs are assured of a Semi Final and will have home advantage at Sandy Park. The English Premiership Final will be played on June 01 at London’s Twickenham Stadium.

In the event that Cordero returns he will have the opportunity to finish his English Premiership career in dream fashion. Next season the speedster will be playing his rugby in France, doing so for Bordeaux in the Top 14.

Before then Cordero will be in contention to play for Argentina in RWC 2019. The veteran of RWC 2015 has 33 test caps for Los Pumas and is the form Argentine outside back anywhere in the world in 2019. Just days prior to his knee injury he was named English Premiership Player of the Month for the month of March.

Argentine Head Coach Mario Ledesma met with Cordero recently in England. He made it clear that selection for the RWC will see priority given to Jaguares’ players. In cases in which the European is genuinely superior they will be selected.

Cordero and Juan Imhoff are both certain to be considered. Whether, or not, they make the roster is currently up for discussion. Jaguares’ wingers Bautista Delguy, and Ramiro Moyano are both presently sidelined through injury with the former out for the remainder of the Super Rugby season.
