It’s the third-to-last week of the RFU Championship season and London Irish are so close to promotion they can taste it. Ealing are still mathematically capable of winning and in fact will face Irish in the final round but the Exiles will play the two lowest teams on the table over the next two weeks, all but guaranteeing their future.
Trailfinders will start the weekend off on Saturday at St. Peter on the isle of Jersey. The Reds are in third place and have proven a quality outfit, always capable of winning upsets at home. Ealing will start Andrew Durutalo at openside flank with fellow USA international Ben Landry on the bench.
Nottingham’s road trip to Coventry is next up, and Shane O’Leary will play flyhalf for the visitors as usual. The Canadian has a 20-point lead in the overall points scoring chart over Richmond’s Tom Kirby so a good game from his teammates could help him win that race.
Brett Beukeboom captains Cornish Pirates against London Scottish, having started all 19 matches for his team thus far. Javier Rojas will play flyhalf for the Pirates with his future still up in the air following the signing of Nicolás De Battista.
Bedford Blues will play both their North American internationals in their home tilt against Richmond. Canada’s Justin Blanchet is on the blindside flank and the USA’s Will Hooley is once again wearing the No10 shirt.
Yorkshire Carnegie are a club in tatters off the field but they will front up and finish the season despite concerns that they may not be paid. Visiting Doncaster will be sympathetic but not for the 80 minutes on the pitch with Nick Civetta their main lineout target on Sunday.
