Fuailefau and Douglas reach 50 for Canada

Mike Fuailefau and Justin Douglas will reach career milestones at the Singapore Sevens this weekend. The Canadian duo will each play in their 50th HSBC Sevens Series event for Canada, following in the footsteps of current teammates Nathan Hirayama and Harry Jones among others.

After playing for Canada’s u20 side in back-to-back Junior World Trophy tournaments, Fuailefau made an immediate transition to full-time sevens, making his debut as a 20-year-old on Australia’s Gold Coast in October 2012. He has since played in the 2013 World Cup Sevens, the 2015 Pan-Am Games, and the Commonwealth Games in both 2014 and 2018. Fuailefau missed out on the 2018 World Cup due to injury. He also has one XV-a-side cap as a midfield replacement against Japan in 2013.

Douglas, now 25 and two years Fuailefau’s junior, has a similar resume. He was a starting winger in two Junior World Trophy tournaments and debuted at the same Gold Coast tournament in 2012 as an 18-year-old. In addition to the high-profile events attended by Fuailefau, Douglas also appeared in the 2018 World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.

Canada are currently in 12th place on the overall HSBC Series standings and are looking to rebound in Singapore after a poor showing in Hong Kong. They have been drawn in a challenging Pool A along with Fiji, South Africa, and Scotland. A full fixture list can be seen here. All matches will be streamed live on the CBS Sports website.
