Jaguares Suffer Double Blow as Two Players Return to Argentina Injured

Los Jaguares injury list continues to grow. Ruled out of facing the Sharks next weekend is Ramiro Moyano. The starting winger is returning to Argentina to undergo studies to confirm the extent of his injury picked up against the Bulls on Saturday.

Moyano left the field in Pretoria at half-time after taking a blow to his kidney. The initial analysis is no more than he will not be match-fit to play again this coming Saturday. This will see Gonzalo Quesada needing to reshuffle his backline.

Quesada’s starting wings are the same as those utilized by Mario Ledesma for Los Pumas in 2019 – Bautista Delguy, and Ramiro Moyano. Delguy is out for the season and even in doubt for the Rugby Championship.

Matías Moroni is naturally an outside center though has the means of playing wing when required. He has done so for both Los Jaguares, and Los Pumas. With Moyano officially out of facing the Sharks Moroni is likely to again play wing with fullback Emiliano Boffelli expected to fill-in for Moyano.

With Boffelli on the wing Joaquín Tuculet would return to start at fullback. This would open up a vacant position on the bench. On tour to South Africa are Juan Cruz Mallía, and Santiago Carreras. One of them is certain to wear the 23 shirt though both players very well could be on the bench.

Domingo Miotti’s impressive debut from the bench against the Bulls may see him promoted ahead of Santiago González Iglesias to be Los Jaguares’ starting fly half. This being the case then Mallía may well be the replacement fly half, a possibility furthered by starting outside center Matías Orlando being the back-up option to Jerónimo de la Fuente’s inside center spot.

The team will be finalized on Thursday. The above mentioned potential scenario for the backs is part of the changes expected for the Sharks. There are additional areas which will be considered by Quesada. One of them is prop with Lucio Sordoni joining Moyano in flying home to Argentina. This has seen Juan Pablo Zeiss added to the roster. The Patagonian will arrive to join the roster on Monday.
