English Premiership – Week 17 Preview

With the Six Nations over for the year players are back with their respective clubs. This weekend marks week 17 of the English Premiership season and sees teams with plenty to play for. Taking to the fields will be five players from the Americas.

Opening week 17 will be the Midlands classic between the Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints. Involved for the home side will be Facundo Gigena. The Argentine loosehead prop has been named on the bench. Despite being uncapped he met with Mario Ledesma recently about the prospect of playing in the World Cup.

Worcester are fighting for their Premiership lives, currently only three points above Newcastle and their game against Bristol at Ashton Gate will be viewed as a must-win. Joe Taufete’e will be waiting his turn from the bench as Irish hooker Niall Annett is given the start.

Falcons have a colossal match at against Sale that will be played at St. James Park, the home of Newcastle United that housed more than 30,000 fans in last year’s fixture at the iconic stadium. Canada’s Evan Olmstead is again among the replacements after making his Premiership return against Wasps two weeks ago.

Titi Lamositele will start at loosehead prop for Saracens as they host Harlequins at Allianz Park. It’s the fourth start of the season for Lamositele, with who has split his team between loosehead and tighthead with the club this season.

Sunday’s only game sees league-leaders Exeter welcoming Bath to Sandy Park. Santiago Cordero continues to wind down his final campaign with the Chiefs and he starts at fullback, another target for Ledesma who now looks certain to book a spot in Japan after the injury to Bautista Delguy.
