A home win for Los Teritos today over Chile sees Uruguay qualifying for the 2019 Junior World Trophy. Uruguay has played in the past six tournaments but this year’s edition will break new ground with it taking place in neighboring Brazil.
From July 7-21 eight countries will compete at the Junior World Trophy in São José dos Campos. The event will be at the Estadio Martins Pereira, a venue to have played host to matches in the Americas Rugby Championship.
Uruguay secured the qualification spot from South America to join hosts Brazil, Asian qualifier Hong Kong and the Junior World Championship relegated Japan. Additional qualifiers will come from Rugby Afrique, Rugby Americas North, Oceania Rugby, and Rugby Europe.
Uruguay booked their spot with a 38-13 victory over Chile. Captain Juanjuan Garese led by example in scoring a try. Also crossing were Felipe Arcos Pérez, Juan Pablo Costabile, Maxime Sonneveld, and Ezequiel Ramos who scored a hat-trick.
With the win Uruguay advance to face Argentina in the South American u20s final on Saturday. Los Pumitas were 90-5 winners over Brazil in the earlier fixture of the day.
